If gamers expected to play Starfield and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of Kingdom in 2022, the announcements that they would only arrive in 2023 left a lot of people disappointed. However, this made room for other highlights of the year, both in terms of titles and Elden Ring and God of War: Ragnarok and on the technology side, such as the debut of the Steam Deck and the popularization of cloud gaming.
However, what most moved the entire industry were the acquisitions of studios and companies. The big three: Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony added other companies to their teams. While the house of Xbox made the biggest one (even if not finished yet), the owner of PlayStation acquired the maker of Destiny and Big N took another step towards its cinematographic universe. Remember all of this below.
Company buying company
In 2022, big names in games decided to get on the acquisition train. The most imposing is, at the same time, the only one that has not yet received a hammer blow. In January of that year, the Microsoft announced the purchase of Activision Blizzard for an amount close to US$ 70 billion.
This would make franchises like diablo and Overwatch become part of the Xbox family. However, the main target of discussion is the series call of duty🇧🇷 Sony is trying to make the deal go away, as it says the popular FPS shouldn’t become exclusive to a single platform. It is worth mentioning that the agreement may still not work out, as regulatory bodies such as the FTC try to prevent a favorable outcome for Microsoft.
Sony also got into the excitement of buying companies and added the Bungie, developer of Destinyto the PlayStation family🇧🇷 The deal cost the Japanese coffers US$ 3.6 billion.
Nintendo, on the other hand, even decided to go shopping, but the Big N’s intention was different from its competitors. Rather than acquiring a game producer, company preferred to get Dynamo Picturesan animation studio for your film plans.
In addition to the three giants, it is worth noting that in May 2022, the Square Enix sold Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal and Square Enix Montréal studios to Embracer Group for $300 million. Thus, franchises like tomb Raider🇧🇷 God EX and thief now they have a new owner.

Easier consoles to find
The portable Steam Deck was launched in the United States in February 2022. Powerful and robust, Valve’s system showed that it is possible to have the quality of the most current video games in the palms of the player’s hands. However, the hefty price put off many enthusiasts.
Starting at $399, the console proved expensive and quite unique in what it offers. It delivers a PC Gamer experience in a relatively small package, but one that pleases those who use it.
As far as the main home platforms are concerned, the Nintendo Switch has hit new marks, surpassing 114 million units sold worldwide in November. It is possible that as I type this retrospective, the Big N hybrid has surpassed the PlayStation 4 and become the fourth best-selling console in history.
Fans of both Microsoft and Sony also had good news in 2022. It started to get easier to find Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 in stores. Black Friday, in particular, brought together several cool system promotions. If you follow the TB findingsso you must have come across a more affordable price this year.
O PS5 received interesting updates like 1440p supportcreation of game folders and the debut of PlayStation Stars, the brand’s loyalty program. news reviews of the device also began to appear around the world, but the differences end up not being gigantic. Finally, Sony announced in August a console price increase in several countries🇧🇷
In addition Logitech launched its long-awaited laptop, the G Cloud🇧🇷 The console was designed to be an easy option for those who just want to enjoy the games without having to purchase media or digital acquisitions. All you need is a subscription to one of the services like NVidia GForce Now or Microsoft’s Game Pass. Its price is not that cheap ($349), but it is still an interesting hardware alternative.

gaming in the clouds
The whole cloud gaming experience also came into its own in 2022, for better and for worse.
O Xbox Game Pass app for cloud gaming lands on select Samsung TVs in the middle of the year in Brazil. In this way, users with an active subscription and a competent internet connection can now enjoy the service catalog directly from their television set. Of course, a Bluetooth controller is also required for the game.
The disappointment (even if not surprising) was announcement of the end of Google Stadia🇧🇷 The platform had potential, but poor choices like having to buy each cloud game separately and at full price ended up shooting the service in the foot.

But what about the games?
Even with the postponement of expected works, the twelve months of 2022 guaranteed excellent games for fans. The fantastic and challenging journey of Elden Ring conquered millions of people and still grabbed the main prizes of the year. At the review of Technoblogwe think that there are technical flaws, but that do not interfere with the majestic experience offered.
Another title that received a lot of attention was Kratos’ latest adventure in God of War: Ragnarok🇧🇷 Many PlayStation owners consider it the true GOTY, but if you want to know more about the production, check out the Hit Kill special on him🇧🇷
For Nintendo fans, the company offered a huge number of options this year for the Switch. From RPGs like Triangle Strategy and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 to less conventional alternatives such as Splatoon 3🇧🇷 It is true that Big N did not escape controversy, with pokemon scarlet and Violet receiving many complaints from fans because of his unsatisfactory performance.
I still need to point out honorable mentions like the charming Stray (or “cat game”), the grandeur of Horizon Forbidden Westthe insanity of neon white and the return to the roots of The King of Fighters XV🇧🇷 Speaking of “back to the roots”, in 2022 we received the triumphant return of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in TMNT: Shredder’s Revengeone of my favorites of the year.
Our favorites of the year are compiled at hitkill episode 59🇧🇷 Be sure to check it out!

2023 promises big titles
The last 12 months have really excited those who enjoy different journeys in games, but 2023 could be even more exciting.
If nothing changes, we already have confirmation of some names that fans really want to get their hands on. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be released in May. It is one of the most anticipated sequels of all time and could revolutionize the franchise once again. However, for this it needs to deliver even more than its predecessor.
The Xbox Series should finally have a year full of exclusives. Starfield will arrive in the first half of next year. Bethesda’s new venture wants to be a unique experience in RPGs. Nor can we forget redfall, the open-world, vampire-themed multiplayer. Furthermore, there are expectations of the new forza motorsport🇧🇷 hellblade 2 and, who knows, Fable🇧🇷
Finally, Sony has already confirmed that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 until the end of 2023. Final Fantasy VII Reunion🇧🇷 Final Fantasy XVI and the multiplayer The Last of Us are also on the list for the PlayStation 5.
Lots of games, no doubt, but only if nothing is delayed… again.
