The first previews of DualSense Edge began to be released. In addition to its capabilities and interesting features, one of the most important points is its battery. If the standard PS5 controller already leaves something to be desired in this regard, everything indicates that its more expensive version will suffer from the same problem. That’s because Sony itself has already admitted the decrease in the accessory’s charge time.
Even with an internal battery, the common PlayStation 5 joystick takes about 10 hours to discharge itself. In many cases, there are reports that there is a need to recharge the gadget after just over 5 hours of gameplay.
Therefore, it is worrying that the new accessory spends its energy in a shorter time. Who said this was the Japanese company itself in a statement through its spokesperson for the The Verge🇧🇷
The operating time of the DualSense Edge is moderately shorter than the original DualSense because we’ve packed a lot more features within the same form factor and ergonomic design.
From there, we can deduce that even adding cool features like customizable buttons and adaptive triggers, the battery remains the same as the previous model. What is a shame.
For comparison, the Xbox Series Elite 2 controller has a charge time of around 40 hours.
Sony does not comment on the battery
For now, the PlayStation owner mentions each part of the powerful controller, but shows no interest in talking about the duration of the object’s energy. In addition to leaving players with a flea behind their ear, this opens the door to questioning whether the price of the accessory is really worth the purchase.
It is worth remembering that the DualSense Edge will hit stores on January 26costing US$199.99 (about R$1,050).
Another debatable point is that Sony itself suggests the use of cable in gaming, more specifically for hardcore gamers:
We wanted to strike a good balance between wireless uptime and delivering robust, high-performance features. Plus, the longer braided USB cable is also great for competitive gamers who prefer to play with a wired connection to avoid wireless interference – this option conserves battery life.
Even highlighting that the cable is an interesting alternative for the more “competitive”, this is still a warning for any other user who is willing to try the novelty.
The new features will clearly sacrifice controller load. In this way, I question whether it would not have been valid to add a more powerful internal battery to the DualSense Edge.
