It can’t be nice to visit a new location and find that it doesn’t offer anything interesting for you. With that in mind, Google Maps is planning an update to avoid this kind of situation. called “Neighborhood vibe”, the resource promises to more accurately determine the characteristics of a neighborhood. Thus, the information will be even more coherent with reality, avoiding holes in the tour.
The novelty will use a combination of AI and knowledge from the user community. Therefore, photos, reviews, videos and all kinds of contributions will become useful tools to help tourists on their travels.
Nobody wants to visit a fallen tourist spot, right?!
In practice, the “Neighborhood vibe” will work like this: the user will select a neighborhood for the tour and then will be able to check out the most popular and interesting parts of the place. By using opinions and content from many other people, no one will be left in the dark when it comes to decision.
Chris Phillips, VP & General Manager of Google Maps, gave another example:
Let’s say you’re on a trip to Paris – you can quickly know if a neighborhood is artsy or has an exciting food scene so you can make an informed decision on how to spend your time.
The new feature will arrive worldwide in the coming months for Android and iOS.
More news for Maps
During the Search On event, which took place on Wednesday (28), the company announced other tools for its maps and location app. Google says it’s all part of an effort to improve users’ browsing experience.
The news are:
- Immersive View: you will be able to explore an area as if you were floating through it. The purpose of this feature is to allow route planning. Visual information such as weather, traffic and pedestrian movement will be very close to reality;
- Search with LiveView: focusing on a more instantaneous search in real time, this tool will help the user to find important points of the place. With the use of the camera, the person will be able to find banks, shops, parking lots and other establishments in their vicinity;
- Eco-friendly routing for developers: Google Maps will offer developers routes that use less fuel. In order to reduce the impact on the environment, this option will help several companies to choose more efficient routes for their trips. Also, in the future, developers will be able to add interactive bookmarks to the application for greater customization.
