Nvidia let slip on its official website the launch page of the RTX 4070 Ti, a video card that should be launched on Thursday (5) – as rumors point out. Leaker Momomo_US recorded a print before the manufacturer removed the site from the air. In the image, all the specifications of the RTX 4070 Ti match the RTX 4080 12 GB, a model “cancelled” by Nvidia.
For those who don’t remember, in September of last year, Nvidia announced the new generation of RTX 4000 GPUs. The company showed three models of cards: RTX 4090, RTX 4080 16 GB and RTX 4080 12 GB. This last model generated a storm of criticism from the public and from journalists, who accused the RTX 4080 of being the RTX 4070.
RTX 4070 Ti will arrive cheaper than announced in September
According to the print, captured on the Nvidia France website, the RTX 4070 Ti will be launched at a price of US$ 799. When it was announced last year, still as an RTX 4080, the RTX 4070 Ti would arrive costing US$ 899.
This price was one of the factors of the digital “pot” against Nvidia. Rightly so, since the RTX 4080 line is the top of the line gamer, behind the RTX 4090 that caters to content creators and professionals — addendum: nothing prevents a gamer from using an RTX 4090, but a series below already delivers great performance for games.
As already mentioned, the RTX 4070 Ti has the same technical specifications as the RTX 4080 12 GB, which are, in addition to 12 GB of GDDR6X memory: 7,680 CUDA cores, maximum frequency of 2.61 GHz with boost and 192-bit memory interface .
Compared to the “real” RTX 4080, aside from the 4GB more memory (16GB more), the RTX 4070 Ti has 2048 fewer CUDA cores. The RTX 4080 also has a 256-bit memory interface.
In terms of energy consumption, the RTX 4070 Ti needs 285 W, against 320 W for the RTX 4080. Nvidia’s next GPU has input for HDMI, DisplayPort, 4th generation PCIe and 3rd generation DLSS.
The truth is that it is no surprise that Nvidia would present the RTX 4080 12 GB as some GPU of the RTX 4070 version, whether Ti or not. The “unlaunch” was not the indication that the chip would be canceled or discontinued – even more so that it was ready to be sent to whoever bought it.
And for those who are going to buy the RTX 4070 Ti, perhaps if you scrape a little bit there from the area where the “7” is located on the card chassis, it will be possible to see a small layer of paint that formed the “8”, from the brief time when the GPU was still it was the RTX 4080 12 GB.
