THE Razer is about to present its first portable console with 5G. Fruit of a partnership between the manufacturer, Qualcomm and the verizonthe company intends to announce the Razer Edge 5G, which tends to stream games and play them locally. The device will also come out of the box with Android.
The expectation comes from MWC Las Vegas 2022, which started this Wednesday (28). At the time, the American operator reported that it teamed up with Qualcomm and Razer to launch a portable console with 5G. The information was made official by George Koroneos, Verizon’s public relations manager, on his Twitter profile.
“Verizon, Razer and Qualcomm are teaming up on the world’s first 5G mobile gaming laptop – Razer Edge 5G!” he said. “It will allow you to play your favorite games whether you are playing in the cloud, in an app, or streaming from your console.”
Razer Edge 5G will have Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 and Android
Further details were revealed in a press release. According to the operator, the device will be powered by Snapdragon G3x Gen 1, a chip for handheld consoles. Among the highlights are the promise to run games at up to 144 FPS with HDR 10 enabled, in addition to support for 5G mmWave and sub-6 and Wi-Fi 6 and 6E.
The console will also reach the consumer with Android. It is not yet known which version of the system will be. But the operator anticipates that the device will offer access to games “downloaded to play locally, streamed from your console or accessed directly from the cloud”.
The other information in the technical file was not disclosed in the statement. But it won’t be long before everyone gets to know the new gadget: the Razer Edge 5G is expected to be presented at RazerCon on October 15, 2022.
