Launched in early November by Netflix, the “basic with ads” plan landed here without its full catalog, as some platform titles could not be included due to licensing issues. The unavailability is temporary, but if you are thinking of purchasing this subscription, it is important to know which productions are outside the company’s new plan🇧🇷
Thinking about it, the Technoblog decided to list some of the main missing titles. A list that, according to data from the JustWatch reaches more than a thousand movies and series – the regular streaming plan currently has 5,875 titles, while the “basic with ads” has 4,569.
Interestingly, when we made this selection, some of these productions caught our attention right away.
series like House of Cardif The Good Placewhich were left out even though they were famous streaming originals, and One of Us Is Lyingwhich is stuck in the catalog even though it is part of the current top 10 on the platform.
In the case of films, the astonishment was due to titles such as The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Run!, Run Away (another Netflix original) and the entire franchise Twilight🇧🇷 Productions not available in the plan with advertisements, but which are very popular both inside and outside the service.
It’s worth noting that Netflix said it was working to work around these issues. But, as these are licensing issues, it is even possible that the Brazilian catalog presents differences in relation to that of other countries and more titles may eventually be left out of the plan.

A curiosity about films locked in “basic with ads” is that they usually appear in searches on the platform or even in some lists where they are needed (as is the case of productions that are not available, but are in the top 10).

When they appear in the catalogue, however, the titles are accompanied by a closed padlock symbol, which indicates that that production is not accessible to the subscriber.
When clicking on the title to see more details, the play button appears replaced by the words “Change plan to watch” and a message just below informs that the production is not available in “basic with ads” due to licensing restrictions.
Still, you can add it to your list and even rate it.
How the new Netflix plan works
Launched worldwide after much speculation, the “basic with ads” is a cheaper package (R$ 18.90) than all other Netflix plans, but which has advertisements during its transmission.
With non-skippable ads that appear in blocks, they typically run between 30, 60 and 75 seconds. An intervention that happens right after the user presses play on a title, but that also appears several times throughout its reproduction – as we told in the package experience report that we did here in Technoblog🇧🇷
With a smaller catalog compared to other plans, it has 720p resolution and only one simultaneous screen per transmission. However, it allows the creation of several profiles, including one for children, in which children’s programs are free of advertisements.
For those interested, it is worth remembering that the plan not compatible with all devices.
