It barely arrived on the platform and the Twitter views counter should already receive an upgrade. According to Elon Musk, CEO of the network, in addition to tinkering with the design of the tool – which appears in almost all messages, alongside information such as comments and likes –, the company will add an option for the user to turn it off.
The news was shared by Musk on his own social network account, as a response to a tweet that complained about the platform’s new aesthetic. According to the billionaire, he believes that “almost everyone will like the change”, which would remove the mandatory feature, received with mixed reactions on the internet.
Details about the novelty were not commented by the billionaire, nor as a prediction of when the change will air. However, it is worth remembering that the tool itself was also announced by Musk on his behalf, who, at the time, explained that it would make Twitter “more alive”.
According to the CEO, more than 90% of users read, but do not tweet, reply or like a network message, as these are public actions. In this way, the views counter would help to show the impact these messages have on the service, masked by this lack of interaction.
Public views of the tweet divided opinions
Launched on the platform last December 22, the views counter came to please some users, but also caused many negative reactions.
In addition to complaints about its design, which, according to some users, was disturbing the interaction of the people in the service, there were even those who drew attention to the fact that the metric already existed on the platformbut privately.
Available in the three-dot icon > “View tweet statistics”, the number of views could only be observed by the author of the post – something that changed with the update, when the counter became public information.
according to the platformcurrently, only three types of messages were not impacted by the tool: tweets made in communities, old tweets (posted before the update) and tweets directed to your Twitter circle.
