YouTube has a new face and new features. In addition to revamping its look, using a color transition mechanism to make the viewer’s eyes more comfortable, it also upgraded its video player, and added zoom and timeline features for thumbnails in iOS and Android apps. . New features were announced this Monday (24) and are already coming to the platform.
The zoom and thumbnail functions were being tested for some time by YouTube and, given good reception, are now being made available to all users of the platform on mobile devices and tablets.
The magnification tool, especially, promises to be a hit with the most curious audience, who likes to look carefully at the videos they watch. Now, thanks to it, the user will be able to zoom in on any area of the recording, viewing all the details of what is being shown.
To do this, he just needs to place two fingers on the screen and, by means of a pinch movement, zoom in on the area he wants to enlarge. After doing this and releasing the screen, another surprise comes: the image does not rewind, remaining enlarged. If you want to return it to normal size, the user just has to pinch the video again and do the opposite movement, moving it away.
The thumbnails timeline, called by YouTube as “precise search”, makes life easier for those who need to go back or forward several times throughout a video. That’s because it creates a line of thumbnails of the perfect recording for the user to find the exact moment they need to watch.
For this timeline to appear, the user simply drags or swipes up on the video player. Then he can scroll through the thumbnails until he finds the moment he wants and click on it to play.
YouTube dark mode has been revamped
Another novelty announced by YouTube (available on the web version, on mobile devices and on Smart TVs) was the revamped look of its dark theme, which, thinking precisely about contrasts, focuses mainly on colors to better capture the attention of viewers.
For this, in addition to making the theme even darker, the network implemented a new function for it called “ambient mode”, which makes the transition from the platform background to the video more subtle.
Emulating the effect that colored lights have in a dark room, the change looks small, but it brings more comfort to the user’s eyes and keeps their focus on what is being projected.
Subscribe button and player actions have been upgraded
Finally, the network also made some adjustments to its video player, which promise to please both those who publish and who consume videos on the platform.
The subscription button, for example, got a new look, with a more prominent background, which draws the user’s attention. No longer in red, it and the options to like, share and download, in addition to the comments section itself, now have a rounded edge and a different “face”, which helps to divide them better on the screen.
In addition, links added to video descriptions will now be replaced by buttons, making the post look cleaner.
